How It Works: Threading is an ancient method of removing hair which still used in India, Pakistan, numerous countries in the Middle East, and in booths throughout the corridories of our malls. This method gives clean lines and good shape to the eyebrows. It can also be used for removing hair from other facial areas, like from the upper lip. Strands of 100% cotton thread are twisted and rolled along the skin surface, entwining the hair fibers into the cotton thread which is then lifted out from the hair follicle.
How Long it Lasts: Similar with plucking the hair, threading lasts anywhere between 3 and 7 weeks.
Pros: It’s extremely sanitary and hygienic, but it method must be done by an expert. Threading has the distinct ability to be very concise with the hair that it removes. There are absolutely no chemicals that need to be applied on the skin. It’s very fast, and though every technician has her own technique, it takes around two minutes from start to finish to thread a pair of eyebrows. As an added benefit, frequent threading can destroy the hair follicles, and stop growing more hair.
Cons: Your need someone skilled and experienced to thread your hair. Otherwise, if done incorrectly, the hairs can break. Threading can only be done on facial hair, and it requires a minimum of 1/16 inches of hair to be present in order for the thread to be able to wrap around it. Although hair threading hurts (similar to using a tweezer), the process is much quicker.
Tips: Use warm water compresses to soften the skin around the hair follicle. This will make the hair come out much quicker. If sensitive to pain, there are also sprays that can be used to numb the skin. This can help relieve discomfort.
