How It Works: By stretching the skin, a person grips the hair close to the root with tweezers, and pulls it out in a quick motion.
How Long It Lasts: 3 to 7 weeks
Pros: Plucking can be done in your own home, and is affordable because it only requires tweezers and patience. Each hair must be removed individually, so it can be time-consuming. There are electric devices called epilators, which cost between $20 to $70, can pull out several hairs at once.
Cons: Plucking can be painful, and the hair can break off below the skin. If that happens, you can get an ingrown hair. After plucking, the hair follicle will be swollen and irritated, so you may notice temporary red bumps. We don’t suggest to use epilators on the eyebrows because they don’t give you good control, and can pull out a bunch of hairs at once.
Tips: In order to reduce the risk of infection, you should sterilize the tweezers with rubbing alcohol before and after each use.
